Saved Searches in Catawiki
REASONS TO COME BACK
Context & Opportunity statement
What is Saved Searches and why redesigning it?
In Catawiki there are almost 100k different special objects in auction every week. This is why setting up alerts for when an object comes into auction is so important for users.
At the moment of the redesign, 50% of the users visiting Saved Searches are coming from CRM. The other 50% are coming organically. We want to increase the share of users coming to Saved Searches regularly by doing a better job at communicating if there are new matches. We already do so in the emails, however, we don’t show it on Product.
BEFORE: Saved Searches page

If we show how many new matches a saved search has when users visit the Saved Searches page,
then more existing users will come back to Catawiki,
because it will become a habit to check what’s new in their saved searches.
Hypothesis
Saving a search is important
for Catawiki users
“A wonderful ancient book. An ancient book that I have been looking for for almost twenty years at an affordable price”
"I love your app. Even better would it be, if I could save my favorite searchings. For example: if I am searching for rings I have to navigate through the tree and set the filter right. If I close and reopen the app I have to do the same"
"The app isn't bad and it's pretty clear. Except that there are no notifications for new entries related to saved searches"
The redesign

What changed?
Green badges highlighting when there are new matches since the user's last visit.
Grey badges when there are matches but the user has already seen them.
🔎 Clear list of the user's Saved Search terms

Users can quickly browse through results in their saved searches without necessarily leaving the page.
Search terms with no results would not be shown in this section (opposed to the "before" version.
🔎 Results within each Saved search term
Simple solution. Conclusive impact
We validated the hypothesis: The new design encouraged users to visit Saved Searches page more often. This means the goal was achieved: users visiting coming back to the platform more.

Expanding the impact
In next releases, we want to surface the "NEW matches" badge to other surfaces:
Search screen
Homepage and user's "For you" page
...and even an entire dedicated hub for the user's interests following the positive impact we saw with Saved Searches.
